Can you help transport our dogs?
We are always looking for help to transport our dogs. Sometimes we have long runs to cover to transport dogs to rescues or short local runs. Any help with part or all of the run would help us tremendously. Local runs usually involve picking up dogs from the vets and taking them to the kennels, all of this is a major part of their rescue and we are limited to what we can do ourselves so we need volunteers to help us with this.
Most of the dogs are very well behaved but occaisionally one may traumatised so all this needs to be considered during the transport run. All of our dogs need handling very gently and sympathetically at all times and must be secure with no chance of them escaping, getting into traffic or running away. This could happen is they are not secure as they will not understand what is happening to them and will be frightened and confused.
At present we do not have our own vehicle so we rely on volunteers help using their own vehicles for transporting our dogs so all cars or vans should be very secure, preferably with dog guards or crates. As the dogs often come without a collar or lead you will need to take one with you. Slip leads are a better choice as this will give more security when transfering our dogs from vehicle to vehicle or home/rescue/kennels.
Treats are usually gratefully received and can help when transporting our dogs, it will make them more at ease and can be offered to encourage them to get in or out of a vehicle. Water should always be carried and small drinks along the way are a must on a longer journey.
Sometimes a break and a small walk might be needed if they are being transported on long distance, so this is when great care is needed to ensure a dog is secure on a lead/harness etc.
If you think you could help with any transport runs please get in touch
